Sandy's Land Recap of 2012

Sandy's Land Publishing, Entertainment and Event Planning RECAP for 2012

1. Sandy's Land hosted the first Girl Power Workshop based on the book, Girl Power Discover the Princess Within written and illustrated by Sandra Epps (http://www.girlpowerbook.eventbrite.com/). This event was invitation only. Girls created their DREAM Pillow (vision assignment), guest were provided with 10 Top Girly Tips. In addition to being served tea and delicious desserts on authentic china from Sandy's Land Collection, Girls then participated with several interactive assignments that included: Reflection, Dream Fortune, Secret Box, and Personal Treasure. Lastly, Ny'Ree Hardyway Performed and Directed the play Girl Power based on the book Girl Power Discover the Princess Within with a cast of five girls.

2. Sandy's Land hosted a Pretty In Pink Pamper Party for the cast of Girl Power based on the book Girl Power Discover the Princess Within written and illustrated by Sandra Epps.

 
3. Sandra Epps, Founder of Sandy's Land was a featured speaker at Transforming Love Community Church for their Pretty Brown Girl Celebration.

4. Sandy's Land Publishing and Entertainment participated with the  Jerry Pinkney Celebrity Book Fair hosted by the Dr. Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

5. The Wellness Plan sent a Thank You Letter to Sandy's Land service for their participation with the 2nd Annual Let's Get Moving- Art and Health Fair.
6. Dr. Deborah Smith Pollard host of Strong Inspiration with WJLB FM 98 invited Sandra Epps on her show to talk about Sandy's Land services.
 
7. Sandy's Land hosted the Detroit Doll Show that included vendors who participated from Grand Rapids, MI and Chicago Il. There was a viewing and talk of the film Why Do You Have Black Dolls written and directed by Samantha Knowles. Ms. Knowles joined us via phone to answer questions by participating audience members. There were interactive workshops that included history, culture, beauty, and pride. Workshop host: Terry Crawford, President of Motor City Doll Club and Doll Collector; Erica Millbrooks, Founder of Shades So Sweet and LaJeanne Kennedy, Doll Artist/Designer. Children and adult were able to create their own dolls, a doll bag, and other arts & craft activities for the $5 Admission. Doll Designers and Collectors displayed their authentic dolls and accessories. Several Girls participated with the Doll Look-A-Like Fashion Show. Prizes were given to all Fashion Show Participants.
 
8. The Michigan Citizen Newspaper featured Sandy's Land Founder, Sandra Epps in a front page article that focused on Sandy's Land empowering programs that help to build a child's self esteem via books, art and edutainment.
 
9. Fellowship Chapel Church Health and Women's Committees invited Sandra Epps, Founder of Sandy's Land to speak about her pass struggles with lupus and her first book Imani Has the Most Exciting Dream! This book provides young readers a glimpse of the illness based on the main character, Imani's personal experience. And the book, Imani Has the Most Exciting Dream! introduces young people to affirmations.
 
10. Sandy's Land hosted the first Sweets with Santa Christmas ParTEA for a variety of guest with over 60 cups and saucers, 3 drinking pitchers, 5 tea pots, 3 tier servers, 60 desserts plates, satin chair covers, whimsical center pieces and tablecloths from Sandy's Land authentic china and linen collection. The event included Santa Claus, Magic Show, Ms. Claus, Fanciest hat and head adornment contest/fashion show, photographes, performance by students from Detroit School of Performing Arts, give-a-ways, arts & crafts, candy bar, tea sandwiches, cookies, donated muffins by Brighten Up Desserts, Santa Elves and a ton of fun.
 
11. Sandra Epps was voted in as a Member of the Motor City Doll Club.
 
 Sandy's Land also participated with several organizations annual events: Sickle Cell Hustle for a Cure, Sickle Cell Sister Organization Christmas Party, DSO, Detroit Police Department Halloween  Party, Mother's of Murdered Children, Greater Grace Family Fun Day, SHE'S Empowered - Women's Empowerment Conference Butterfly Bash, Citadel of Praise Community Fair, Detroit Public Library Summer Reading Programs, Woodward Academy Career Day, and Detroit Public Library's Noel Night. And most important, Sandy's Land Entertaiment Business increased by 30%.

In 2013 Sandy's Land services will be conducting A Girl Power Pajama Jam, Detroit Doll Show (Facilitate the workshop: Dolls, Dessert, Design and Tea),  and The Christmas Carnival.

  5. These parties are so necessary in 2017. I hope you consider hosting a few. School closures, toxic political environments that are disconnected and devaluing the rights of women/girls, and so much more. Little girls and their adult mentors would definitely be empowered be a party such as this...during the first quarter.
